  • I know I could just Google this, but I’m lazy – I guess everyone’s heard of this Space Needle; but what, exactly, IS it, apart from a tall pointy thing? I’m guessing you can go up inside it, maybe? But why “space”?
It sure is pretty though, especially at night. I love tall “touristy” things – I’ve been up the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State, the Mont St Michel (OK, not quite the same, but high)… but I never made it up the World Trade Center. I was in NYC in April 2001 and the friend I was staying with recommended the ES instead of the WTC, saying “you can do the WTC the next time you’re here”.

  • “Tall pointy thing” sums up the Space Needle rather well. The view is excellent on a clear day and it’s one of those things every tourist wants to do when they come to Seattle. The “Space” piece comes from it’s place in the centre of the Worlds Fair held in Seattle 50 years ago.

There is rotating restaurant at the top, Sunday brunch is decent value should you ever make it to Seattle, but yeah it’s a tall point thing. And like you, I like tall pointy things. I did make it to the top of WTC in ’92 and the CN tower a couple of times. It is all about the view, even if it was after dark that I went up the CN tower last time.

  • I like “big pointy thing”, but the view from the top is great, especially at night where the lights across the lake and on the other side of the sound are bright. It’s a beautiful part of the world.

  • Ah, we’ve evidently come up with the new slogan for Seattle – “Home to the tall, pointy thing”…
The Arche de la Défense in Paris is kind of cool (great view over the rest of the city!), and I enjoyed the Tour Montparnasse, because I like being on high, but it’s a kind of pointless thing to do if I reflect.
